The Situation: I suspect that my teen has PROBABLY NOT used drugs within the last 7 days but MIGHT HAVE used them within the last 90 days.
**BEFORE YOU BEGIN: If you have not had “the talk” with your teen and utilized the three-step checklist to explain the home drug testing process and the reasons for implementing it, please do so BEFORE implementing your strategy.
Get Started: Administer the recommended test for this strategy. (see below)
Implement Strategy: The counselor recommended strategies suggest the following actions based on your results.
If negative: Reward your teen in accordance with the agreement you made up front and hopefully put in writing! Set your “TestMyTeen Randomizer” for a reminder to test at whatever frequency you feel is most appropriate for your situation (We suggest every 60, 90, or 120 days unless you sense something change for the worse shortly thereafter and want to test more frequently).
The 10 Panel Noble Drug Test Kit can be used as a deterrent through random testing that costs far less than the hair tests and can provide instant results if you need them. However, administering a hair test once every 90 days makes it almost impossible to miss drug use if it occurs.
* Caution: Sometimes teens are at the highest risk to use within 7 days of a test because they think the odds of being tested are the most remote. Always having at least 1 Noble Drug Test kit handy can serve as an effective deterrent.
If positive: Implement the consequences that you and your teen agreed to in advance (and hopefully put in writing). (We suggest that you administer 1 Noble Drug Test during every 7 day period for a month, since most drugs should be out of your teen’s system in less than 2 weeks, but marijuana might stay as long as 30 days. After 1 month we encourage you to keep testing every 7 days with the Noble Drug Test until you receive at least 2 or 3 CONSECUTIVE drug free results and feel certain that your teen has stopped using drugs).
When you are fairly certain your teen has gotten the message and has begun earning privileges back, then we suggest that you set your “TestMyTeen Randomizer” a bit more aggressively than you would if your teen had never used drugs (We suggest every 30 days for at least 3-4 months).
After that period of time, hopefully your teen has begun to earn your trust back (along with their privileges) and can be moved to a much more passive testing schedule and you may want to adjust your “TestMyTeen Randomizer” to suggest a test every 60, 90 or 120 days. You be the judge.
